 Chinese Tatting
and Needle Work

History of Asian Designs

Xiaoyan Lin was born in the Guangdong Province of China, in 1965 the “Year-of-the Snake”. In mandarin, Xiaoyan’s name means “small bird” and she was given this name by two extremely loving parents.

As a young girl of 11 in China, Xiaoyan (“Shówyen”)watched her cousin practice her skills at tatting and needle work and quickly developed her own skills solely by watching others.

She has honed her skills over the last 20 plus years and strives to produce quality work at an affordable price.. She commonly identifies her work with three beads that she stitches into the edging of her needle work.

After arriving in the United States and marrying her fiance she once again decided to practice her skills at Chinese needle work.

Chinese Tatting and Needle Work

Xiaoyan’s background in hand crafts includes knitting and needle work to Chinese tatting.

All of Xiaoyan’s work is created entirely by hand and no machinery is utilized in its creation.

Patterns - Many of the needle work patterns that Xiaoyan has come to the US with are patterns that originated from China and clients may choose from a large selection of patterns, designs and sizes.

Thread Colors – Clients may choose from a large selection of thread colors to match almost any home decor.

Custom Requests – Clients may request that patterns be altered from a single color design to that of a multi-colored design and patterns may either be extended or shortened.

Xiaoyan’s works have been featured throughout the Lakes Region and throughout New Hampshire. Her work has quickly received high acclaim especially for her exquisite craftsmanship.

Many first time viewers of her craft are total unaware that her pieces are created solely by hand and only involve a crochet hook or a set of knitting needles.

It is not uncommon to overhear patrons suggest that she must use some type of machine in the development of her work but this is truly not the case.
